REBUILDING 2016-17 DETROIT RED WINGS

The 2016-17 Detroit Red Wings missed the Playoffs for the first time in 25 years but they should have started to rebuild then because it was already the beginning of the end.

If the Red Wings had started to rebuild in 2016 perhaps they would have already become a playoff team by now instead of being the worst team in the league.

The Rebuild will start at the 2016 draft, where the Red Wings make two major trades:

Detroit Red Wings trade Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm to the San Jose Sharks for Chris Tierney, Joonas Donskoi, 1st round pick 2017.

The San Jose Sharks get a Star player in Pavel Datsyuk to add to their already stacked roster, this would make them a serious contender to win a cup; on the flip side, the Red Wings get a 3rd line center in Chris Tierney, a top 9 winger in Joonas Donskoi and a 1st round pick.

Henrik Zetterberg, Gustav Nyquist, Justin Abdelkader are traded to Minnesota Wild for Charlie Coyle, Nino Niederreiter, Marco Scandella, 1st round pick 2016.

This is a huge blockbuster trade give the Wild a star center in Henrik Zetterberg, a top 6 forward in Gustav Nyquist and a top 9 forward in Justin Abdelkader; on the flip side, the Red  Wings get two very solid top 6 players in Coyle and Niederreiter, Marco Scandella, a solid bottom pair defenseman and a 1st round pick.

Because of the Pavel Datsyuk trade made earlier, the Red Wings don't make the draft day trade with the Arizona Coyotes.

Changes in 2016 Draft:

15-(from MIN) Luke Kunin

16-Jakob Chychrun

46-Carter Hart over Givani Smith

53-Adam Fox over Filip Hronek

137-Jesper Bratt over Jordan Sambrook

Because the Red Wings added Charlie Coyle and Chris Tierney, they don't need to sign Frans Nielsen in Free Agency.

The Red Wings buyout Jonathan Ericsson in the offseason because they added Marco Scandella and he wasn't going to play over Kronwall and DeKeyser.

The Detroit Red Wings finish the 2016-17 season with a slightly better record, they have the 11th pick in the 2017 draft.

Before the 2017 draft, three major trades are made:

Detroit Red Wings trade Niklas Kronwall, Thomas Vanek to the Tampa Bay Lightning for Vladislav Namestnikov, 2nd round pick 2017.

The Tampa Bay Lightning really needed a veteran defenseman with playoff experience and Niklas Kronwall provides that; Thomas Vanek will add some Depth scoring for Lightning as well and is a fairly cheap option. On the other side of the trade, the Red Wings get Vladislav Namestnikov, a very talented winger with top 6 potential and a 2nd round pick.

Then Tomas Tatar is dealt to the New York Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, 1st round pick 2018.

The New York Islanders need to add another impact forward and Tatar is exactly that, he just wasn't used properly in Detroit. On the other hand, Detroit gets Anthony Beauvillier, a very skilled player, who has top 6 potential and a 1st round pick.

At the 2017 draft, the Detroit Red Wings trade down; they trade pick 11 to the Vegas Golden Knights for picks 13, 34.

Changes in 2017 draft:

13-(from VGK) Nick Suzuki

19-(from SJ) Robert Thomas

34-(from VGK)-Jesper Boqvist

41-Alexandre Texier

48-(from TB)-Maxime Comtois

The Detroit Red Wings finish the 2017-18 season with a slightly better record and have the 7th pick in the 2018 draft.

Before the 2018 draft, the Detroit Red Wings made one trade:

Detroit Red Wings trade Dan DeKeyser, Petr Mrazek to the Ottawa Senators for 2nd round pick 2018, 2nd round pick 2019, 2nd round pick 2019.

The Red Wings trade Dan Dekeyser, a top 6 defenseman and Petr Mrazek, a potential starter for some draft picks.

Changes in 2018 Draft:

7-Quinn Hughes

14-(from NYI) Joel Farabee

33-Serron Noel over Jonatan Berggren

36-Alexander Romanov over Jared McIsaac

48-(from OTT) Akil Thomas over Jonathan Tychonick

68-Joey Keane over Alec Regula

160-Veini Vehvilainen over Victor Brattstrom

Detroit Red Wings don't re-sign Mike Green and don't sign Jonathan Bernier in Free Agency.

The Detroit Red Wings finish the 2018-19 season with a much better record and end up with the 14th pick in the draft.

At the 2019 draft, the Red Wings trade up, they trade picks 14, 32, 46, 54 to the Buffalo Sabres for pick 6.

Changes in 2019 draft:

6-(from BUF) Moritz Seider

37-(from OTT) Nis Hoglander over Mads Soggard

Detroit Red Wings don't re-sign Jimmy Howard and will opt to sign another veteran backup in free agency.

Red Wings don't sign Patrik Nemeth in Free Agency because they still have Marco Scandella on the team.

The Red Wings can't afford to re-sign Joonas Donskoi, so he leaves in free agency.

In Free Agency, the Red Wings sign Cam Talbot to a 1 yr deal worth 2.75 million;

The Red Wings don't sign Valtteri Filppula in Free Agency.

Detroit Red Wings need to make a few trades due to salary cap reasons:

Detroit Red Wings trade Nino Niederreiter, Joey Keane to the Philadelphia Flyers for Philippe Myers, 2nd round pick 2020.

The Flyers get a top 6 forward in Niederreiter and a potential top 4 defenseman in Keane, while the Red Wings get Philippe Myers, a top 4 defenseman and a 2nd round pick.

They also trade Jesper Bratt, Andreas Athanasiou, Vladislav Namestnikov to the Montreal Canadiens for Joel Armia, 2nd round pick 2020, 3rd round pick 2020.

The Montreal Canadiens add more offensive depth to the lineup, while the Red Wings add Joel Armia and a couple of picks.

Chris Tierney, Trevor Daley are traded to the Florida Panthers for Noel Acciari, MacKenzie Weegar, 2nd round pick 2020.

Florida Panthers get Chris Tierney, a 2nd line center and Trevor Daley, a veteran defenseman with playoff experience, while the Red Wings get Noel Acciari and Mackenzie Weegar to improve their overall depth.

By the 2019-20 season, the Detroit Red Wings have assembled a playoff caliber roster that has the potential to be a legit contender for years to come.

2019-20 Detroit Red Wings:

T.Bertuzzi-D.Larkin-A.Mantha

J.Farabee-N.Suzuki-L.Kunin

A.Beauvillier-C.Coyle-R.Thomas

A.Texier-N.Acciari-J.Armia

Q.Hughes-A.Fox

J.Chychrun-P.Myers

M.Scandella-M.Weegar

C.Hart

C.Talbot

Top Prospects:

F: M.Comtois, A.Thomas, N.Hoglander, J.Boqvist, S.Noel

D: M.Seider, A.Romanov

G: V.Vehviläinen

The Detroit Red Wings would now be in position to contend for a stanley cup for at least the next 5 years.

Fantasy Hockey Forwards to Trade For

Here is a list of Players who you should consider trading for in Fantasy Hockey. Tage Thompson Tage Thompson had very high expectations of him heading into this season but has been a massive disappointment to this point in the season with only 7 goals, 8 assists, 4 PPP, 60 SOG, and 99 FW. Thompson has been better after coming back from injury and you would think that he is going to eventually start putting points in bunches. Because of how bad Thompson's statline is this season. it would be a good idea to trade for him because you may not have to give up a lot in return.  Elias Lindholm Elias Lindholm is another player who has had a slow start to the season with only 7 goals, 10 assists, 3 PPP, 68 SOG, and 297 FW so far this season. Lindholm is definitely going to want to play better if he wants to increase his value for his next contract and also showcase himself for a trade at the deadline. If Lindholm gets dealt to a contending team, his fantasy value would drastically improve b

TIPS FOR DECIDING WHO TO KEEP FOR KEEPER/DYNASTY LEAGUES

Keeper fantasy leagues are a variation of traditional fantasy sports leagues where participants are allowed to keep a certain number of players from their previous season's roster onto their team for the upcoming season. The number of players that can be kept, as well as the specific rules regarding keeping players, vary from league to league and are typically determined by the league commissioner or by a set of agreed-upon rules among league members. In a keeper league, the kept players usually come with a cost, such as forfeiting a specific draft pick in the upcoming draft or having to pay a predetermined fee. This adds a strategic element to the game, as managers must decide which players to keep based on their performance, potential, and value relative to the cost of keeping them. Keeper leagues often provide a deeper level of engagement and strategy compared to standard fantasy leagues because managers need to consider long-term player development and roster management beyond

FANTASY HOCKEY WAIVER WIRE PLAYERS TO PICKUP

Here are some players you should pickup in Fantasy Hockey, sorted by position. Center Colton Sissons Colton Sissons is one of the best 4th line centers in the league, but in fantasy hockey, he could be even more valuable than he actually is in real life because of what he provides in the peripheral categories. So far this season Sissions has 5 goals, 1 PPP, 1 SHP, 12 PIM, 20 SOG, 89 FW, 15 hits, and 9 blocks. This is a terrific stat line and although you can't count on Sissons scoring a ton, he will fill out the FW, Hits, and blocks usually. Sissons is owned in 6% of fantasy leagues, snag him up while you can. Nick Bjugstad Nick Bjugstad is having an excellent year so far with the Arizona Coyotes, in fact he has played so well that he earned himself a promotion to play on the 2nd line along with Mattias Maccelli and Lawson Crouse. Bjugstad also gets time on Arizona's 2nd PP unit and 2nd PK unit. Bjugstad may not be a name who stands out to casuals, but his fantasy stat line is
