2024 Offseason Preview ft. Detroit Red Wings

The Detroit Red Wings just missed out on the playoffs in the 2023-24 season, taking a major step forward from the previous season, and finished the season with a total of 91 points, good for a 41-32-9 record. Moving forward the Red Wings will continue to improve their team by building through the draft and adding free agents that Steve Yzerman feels will help the team in the future. Detroit has 8 draft picks in the 2024 NHL draft, this is who they should select 2024 NHL Draft: 16-Michael Brandsegg Nygard (RW) 47- Simon Zether (C) 80-Teddy Stinga (LW) 128-Alexis Bernier (D) 144-Elliott Groenewold (D) 176-Owen Allard (C) 208-Charlie Cerrato (LW) Though no big names jump out at you, this group of prospects is pretty solid and could play a vital role on the team a few years down the road. Adding Brandsegg Nygard, Simon Zether and Owen Allard are all two-way forwards capable of playing in all situations, Alexis Bernier and Elliott Groenewold are two solid defensemen with good upside, while ...

What Detroit Red Wings Need to do in the Offseason

The Detroit Red Wings are having a disappointing season, but they can turn it around in the offseason, and build to be better next season.  These are the moves that I would make if I were GM of the Detroit Red Wings. Before the 2022 Draft, a few trades are made Detroit Red Wings trade Filip Zadina to the Arizona Coyotes for 1st round pick '22 This is a win-win trade for both teams because the Coyotes get a potential top 6 winger, while the Red Wings get Colorado's 1st round pick from this year's draft. Robby Fabbri and Jordan Oesterle are traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Ilya Mikheyev and Ilya Lyubushkin. If Neither of these players re-signs with Detroit, they get a 2023 3rd-round pick. Detroit retains 1.5 million of Robby Fabbri's Contract for the duration of it. This is basically a cap dump for the Red Wings, and for the Maple Leafs, they get two players to help the roster for two pending UFAs. The Red Wings also trade Dan DeKeyser to the Anaheim Ducks for Jaco...

How Detroit Red Wings can Become Contenders

The Detroit Red Wings have had a terrific start to the season with a 4-2 record, thanks to the arrival of young studs such as Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider, who have added lots of skill and talent to the lineup.   Detroit Red Wings Offseason Moves: 1. Traded for and Re-signed Alex Nedeljkovic 2. Traded for Nick Leddy 3. Signed Pius Suter, Jordan Oesterle 4. Re-signed Jakub Vrana, Filip Hronek 5. Re-signed Marc Staal, Michael Rasmussen, Adam Erne Offseason Review: The biggest weakness for the Detroit Red Wings was goaltending, so they went out and traded for Alex Nedeljkovic, who was in a contract dispute with the Carolina Hurricanes. Then subsequently, re-signed Nedeljkovic to a 2 yr deal worth 3.5 million per season. Nedeljkovic will tandem with Thomas Greiss and should form a solid tandem in net. The Red Wings also acquired Nick Leddy from the New York Islanders. This trade helps the Red Wings take that next step forward, as Leddy is an veteran defenseman, with playoff ex...

REBUILDING 2016-17 DETROIT RED WINGS

The 2016-17 Detroit Red Wings missed the Playoffs for the first time in 25 years but they should have started to rebuild then because it was already the beginning of the end. If the Red Wings had started to rebuild in 2016 perhaps they would have already become a playoff team by now instead of being the worst team in the league. The Rebuild will start at the 2016 draft, where the Red Wings make two major trades: Detroit Red Wings trade Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm to the San Jose Sharks for Chris Tierney, Joonas Donskoi, 1st round pick 2017. The San Jose Sharks get a Star player in Pavel Datsyuk to add to their already stacked roster, this would make them a serious contender to win a cup; on the flip side, the Red Wings get a 3rd line center in Chris Tierney, a top 9 winger in Joonas Donskoi and a 1st round pick. Henrik Zetterberg, Gustav Nyquist, Justin Abdelkader are traded to Minnesota Wild for Charlie Coyle, Nino Niederreiter, Marco Scandella, 1st round pick 2016. This is a huge bloc...
