What Edmonton Oilers need to do in the Offseason

The Edmonton Oilers reached the Conference Finals this year, which shows progress, but they still have lots to improve on and not too much cap room. The Objective for the Oilers this offseason should be to move some of their higher-paid veterans and acquire a goalie. This is what the Edmonton Oilers should do in the offseason. Before the 2022 Draft, a few trades are made Edmonton Oilers trade Jesse Puljujarvi and Warren Foegele to the Detroit Red Wings for Robby Fabbri and Filip Zadina. Detroit Retains 1.25 million of Robby Fabbri's annual cap hit. This is a good trade for both teams, as it gives both teams what they need and all players involved get a change in scenery. The Oilers also trade Kailer Yamamoto to the Nashville Predators for Luke Kunin, 3rd round pick '22. The Oilers might not be able to afford Kailer Yamamoto, so they ship him off to the Predators for Luke Kunin and a draft pick Tyson Barrie is traded to the Seattle Kraken for 2nd round pick '22. This could ...

What Edmonton Oilers should do at the Trade Deadline

The Edmonton Oilers must improve their team at the trade deadline if they are to be a legit contender in the playoffs. This is what the Edmonton Oilers should do at the trade deadline. Trades: Edmonton Oilers acquire Marc-Andre Fleury, Dylan Strome from the Chicago Blackhawks for Mikko Koiskinen, Kailer Yamamoto, Xavier Bourgalt, and a 2023 2nd round pick.  If the Oilers make the Conference Finals, the 2nd round pick become a 1st round pick. Chicago retains 25% of Marc-Andre Fleury's Cap Hit. The Oilers Get a proven veteran goalie in Marc Andre Fleury and Dylan Strome, who could serve as a valuable 3rd line player; on the flip side the Blackhawks get Mikko Koiskinen, Kailer Yamamoto, a young prospect Xavier Bourgalt and a conditional 2nd round pick, which could turn into a 1st. Zack Kassian is traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for a 2022 3rd round pick. Kassian doesn't really fit into the team anymore, so he is traded to the Blue Jackets for a draft pick. The Oilers also tr...

HOW EDMONTON OILERS CAN WIN THE STANLEY CUP

The Edmonton Oilers are in utter disarray right now, after getting off to a hot start to the season. As the season has progressed, the team's weaknesses have been exposed more and more and if they don't fix them, they won't make the playoffs at all. This is what the Oilers have to do to make the playoffs and potentially win a Stanley Cup. Issues w/ Edmonton Oilers: 1. Goaltending has not been good 2. Goal Scoring depth 3. Defensive depth The Goaltending situation for the Edmonton Oilers has not been stable to say the least. Mike Smith has been constantly hurt, so Mikko Koskinen has been the starter for most of the season, and he has proven to be quite inconsistent from game to game. In 20 appearances, Koskinen has a 3.19 GAA and .900 SV%, and Stuart Skinner started 10 games as well, with a 2.70 GAA and .916 SV%. If Mike Smith is going to be constantly hurt this year, the Oilers will definitely need to make a trade for a veteran goalie because Koskinen isn't going to get...

What Edmonton Oilers should do in Free Agency

The Edmonton Oilers must improve their team in free agency if they are to be a legit contender in the Western Conference. These are the moves the Edmonton Oilers should make in free agency. Before the Free Agency period, they need to first move some players that might be exposed for the expansion draft. One of the players that could be in danger of being drafted by Seattle is Adam Larsson, who also happens to be a UFA. Adam Larsson is too important to the Oilers for them to lose him for nothing in the expansion draft, so they should move him beforehand. Edmonton Oilers trade Adam Larsson to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Alexandre Texier, 2nd round pick '22.  This is a trade that works out great for both teams because the Blue Jackets get a top 4 Right Handed defenseman, while the Oilers get a young forward in Alexandre Texier, who has top 6 potential and a 2nd round pick. Edmonton Oilers lose Ethan Bear to the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft. Before heading into free agency,...

2021 Stanley Cup Playoffs: What North Division Teams Need to do to Advance

This is an extension of Podcast 112: What teams need to do to advance in the 2021 Stanley Cup playoffs; Here are my thoughts on what needs to be done for North Division teams to advance. Toronto Maple Leafs vs Montreal Canadiens The Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens have a historic rivalry in the Stanley Cup playoffs, and they look to renew it in the 1st round of the 2021 playoffs. Contrary to popular belief, I don't think this will be a cakewalk for the Toronto Maple Leafs, because the Montreal Canadiens are a tough team to play against. Toronto should be aware that Montreal in the playoffs is a completely different team than Montreal in the regular season. Toronto is obviously the better team on paper, but Montreal is not as bad as most people think. The Maple Leafs are top 6 heavy, while Montreal has tremendous depth and role 4 lines and 3 D pairs. It has been said before that the teams that do well in the postseason have better role players, if that is the case then Mo...

HOW EDMONTON OILERS CAN BECOME A DYNASTY AGAIN

It has been 30 years since the Oilers won their last Stanley Cup but with two of the best players in the world to build around, it is certainly possible to restore the glory days. At the trade deadline, two trades are made: Edmonton Oilers trade Jesse Puljujarvi, Caleb Jones, Zack Kassian, 2021 2nd round pick to the Chicago Blackhawks for Dylan Strome, Philipp Kurashev. The Oilers add Dylan Strome and Philipp Kurashev to add some offensive punch to the lineup. The Oilers also trade Adam Larsson, Jujhar Khaira to the New York Islanders for Anthony Beauvillier, Scott Mayfield.  The Oilers add vital role players in Anthony Beauvillier and Scott Mayfield. The Edmonton Oilers make it to the 2020-21 season but lose in the 2nd round of the playoffs. Edmonton Oilers buyout James Neal ; the buyout costs 1.9 million per season until 2025. Edmonton Oilers lose Ethan Bear to the Seattle Kraken in the expansion draft. Before the 2021 draft, the Oilers make one trade: Edmonton Oilers trade...

REDRAFTING EDMONTON OILERS FOR A DECADE (2002-2012)

The Edmonton Oilers had a drafted horribly during the 2000s and into the early 2010s, which was a major reason for their struggles. In this blog, i redraft the Edmonton Oilers from 2002 to 2012 and see just how much better the team would be if they drafted correctly. 2002: 15-Alex Steen over Jesse Niinimaki 31-Trevor Daley over Jeff Droun-Deslauriers 36-Jarret Stoll 54-Duncan Keith over Matt Greene The Edmonton Oilers land a Stud defenseman in Duncan Keith and a really good top 4 defenseman in Trevor Daley; Alex Steen will be a great Top 6 forward for the Oilers and Jarret Stoll could be a great 3rd line center. 2003: 22-Patrice Bergeron over Marc-Antoine Pouliot 51-Corey Crawford over Colin McDonald 184-Dustin Byfuglien over Dragan Umicevic 284-Jaroslav Halak over Josef Hrabal The Oilers get a top line center in Patrice Bergeron, who will turn into one of the premier two way centers in the league; they will also get Dustin Byfuglien, a player who has the poten...
