REBUILDING 2015-16 VANCOUVER CANUCKS

The 2015-16 Vancouver Cancuks were an aging team that need to rebuild desperately in hopes of becoming a contending once again in the future.
With that in mind, my objective with this rebuild is to rebuild the Vancouver Canucks and turn them back into a contender in the shortest amount of time.

Before the 2016 draft, a few trades are made:

Vancouver Canucks trade Henrik Sedin, Daniel Sedin to the Ottawa Senators for Mika Zibanejad, Ryan Dzingel, 1st round pick 2016, 1st round pick 2017.
The Ottawa Senators get the Sedin twins to play on a line with Mark Stone, which makes them an instant contender in the Eastern Conference,
On the flip side, the Vancouver Canucks get Mika Zibanajed, a very talented young center, Ryan Dzingel, and two first round picks.

Ryan Miller is traded to the Calgary Flames for 2nd round pick 2016, 3rd round pick 2016.
The Calgary Flames really needed a proven veteran goalie, a Ryan Miller is exactly that,
on the flip side of the trade, the Canucks get a 2nd and 3rd round pick in the 2016 draft.

At the 2016 draft, the Vancouver Canucks make two trades:

Vancouver Canucks trade pick 5 to the Buffalo Sabres for picks 8, 33, 69.
Then the Canucks trade picks 54, 56, 69 to the Philadelphia Flyers for picks 48, 3rd round pick 2017.

2016 Draft results:

8-(from BUF)-Mikhail Sergachev
33-(from BUF)-Alex DeBrincat
48-(from PHI)-Carter Hart
66-(from CGY)-Adam Fox

The Vancouver Canucks don't sign Loui Eriksson because the Sedin's aren't there anymore, which was a big reason why he signed with Vancouver in the first place..

The Vancouver have a dreadful 2016-17 season and finish with the 2nd worst worst record in the league;
however, they fall out of the lottery and end up with the 5th pick in the draft.

Before the 2017 draft, one major trade is made:

Vancouver Canucks trade Alex Edler, Sven Baertschi to the New Jersey Devils for the Jesper Bratt, rights to Patrick Maroon, 1st round pick 2018.
The Devils get a top 4 defenseman in Alex Edler and a top 6 forward in Sven Baertschi, while the Canucks get Jesper Bratt, a top 6 forward and a 1st round pick.
The Canucks also acquired the rights to Patrick Maroon, whom they will try to re-sign.

At the 2017 draft, the Vancouver Canucks trade up:

Vancouver trades picks 33, 55, 80, 2nd round pick 2018 to the St.Louis Blues for pick 20

2017 Draft results:

5-Elias Pettersson
20-(from STL) Robert Thomas
64-Michael DiPietro
95-Drake Batherson

Patrick Maroon is re-signed to a 2 yr deal worth 2.75 million.

Vancouver Canucks sign Evgenii Dadonov to a 3 yr deal worth 4.5 million per season

The Vancouver Canucks don't sign Thomas Vanek, Sam Gagner in Free Agency.

The 2017-18 Vancouver Canucks have a slightly better record but they still end up as the 6th worst team in the league.

At the 2018 draft, Vancouver Canucks make two trades:

Vancouver trades pick 17 to the Detroit Red Wings for picks 30, 34, 36.
Then the Canucks trade picks 34, 36 to the Toronto Maple Leafs for pick 29, 52

2018 Draft results:

6-Quinn Hughes
29-(from TOR)-Rasmus Sandin
30-(from DET)-Joe Veleno
52-(from DET)-Benoit Olivier Groulx

Vancouver Canucks sign Michael Grabner to a 3 yr deal worth 3 million per season

Vancouver Canucks don't sign Jay Beagle, Antoine Roussel, Michael Ferland in Free Agency because they don't fit in with the type of team the Canucks are trying to assemble.

With a core of talented young players, the Vancouver Canucks have a solid 2018-19 season but they still miss the playoffs;
the Canucks have the 12th pick in the draft.

Before the 2019 draft, one trade is made:

Vancouver Canucks trade Ben Hutton, Ryan Dzingel, Markus Granlund to the Detroit Red Wings for Tiro Hirose, Nick Jensen, 2nd round pick 2018.
This is a minor trade but an important one that improves the depth for the Canucks.

At the 2019 draft, the Vancouver Canucks trade picks 35, 42 to the Washington Capitals for pick 25

2019 Draft results:

12-Matthew Boldy
25-Connor McMichael

In Free Agency, the Vancouver Canucks sign Brandon Tanev, Valtteri Filppula

Vancouver Canucks don't sign Tyler Myers because he is not worth his contract

Before the 2019-20 season, Vancouver Canucks trade Jesper Bratt, 2nd round pick 2020 to the LA Kings for Tyler Toffoli.

By the 2019-20 season, the Vancouver Canucks have assembled a great young team that could be a playoff team.

Here is there lineup:

E.Dadonov-M.Zibanejad-B.Boeser
T.Pearson-E.Pettersson-T.Toffoli
A.DeBrincat-B.Horvat-R.Thomas
B.Tanev-V.Filppula-J.Virtanen

M.Sergachev-A.Fox
Q.Hughes-C.Tanev
N.Jensen-T.Stetcher

C.Hart
J.Markstrom

Prospects:

F: M.Boldy, J.Veleno, C.McMichael, D.Batherson, B.Olivier Groulx
D: R.Sandin
G: T.Demko, M.DiPietro

With this lineup, the Vancouver Canucks could be a legit contender for the Stanley cup for the next 3-5 years.

Fantasy Hockey Keeper League Advice

Keeper leagues add a layer of strategy and long-term planning to fantasy hockey. Every keeper league has its own unique rules and scoring settings, so adjust your strategy accordingly. By following these tips and adapting to your league's specific dynamics, you can increase your chances of long-term success. Here are some tips to help you dominate your Fantasy Hockey Keeper Leagues. Number of Keepers and League Settings When deciding on keepers, it is very important to know how many keepers the league allows you to keep and the league scoring system, because there are players that work better in H2H CAT leagues as opposed to H2H leagues with standard scoring categories.  If you can only keep a few players, focus on those who provide the most value in your specific scoring format. Keep players who excel in categories that are heavily weighted in your league (e.g., power-play points, hits, blocks, faceoffs). If the league uses Rotisserie or Points settings, you will have to take that...

2024 Offseason Preview ft. New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils the playoffs in the 2023-24 season after making it into the second round of the playoffs last season, and finished the season with a total of 81 points, a 38-39-5 record; With Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier in the midst of their primes, the New Jersey Devils really need to start to buckle down and put together the pieces for a contending team. The good news is that the New Jersey Devils have the benefit of having the 10th overall pick, which they could move to acquire a netminder, and they also have plenty of cap space to add other players as well. This coming offseason is a big one for the New Jersey Devils front office because after striking out on a netminder last offseason, the pressure to acquire a netminder this offseason is immense for GM Tom Fitzgerald, who might be on the hotseat if he can't find a way to fix the mess. Before the 2024 NHL Draft, the New Jersey Devils make two major trades New Jersey Devils acquire Jacob Markstrom, Matthew Coronato, 1st...

2024 Offseason Preview ft. St. Louis Blues

The St. Louis Blues just missed out on the playoffs again in the 2023-24 season, and finished the season with a total of 92 points, a 43-33-6 record; St. Louis is one of those teams that has no direction, as they are stuck with a lot of aging players with bad contracts and are stuck in mediocracy unless they can find a way to move some of those contracts. Moving forward the Blues' primary goals should be trying to unload their bad contracts to gain picks and cap space and retool through the draft.  St. Louis has 8 draft picks in the 2024 NHL draft, this is who they should select. 2024 NHL Draft: 16-Michael Hage (C) 48-Spencer Gill (D) 56-Carson Wetsch (RW) 81-Timur Kol (D) 94-Hagen Burrows (LW) 113-Felix Lacerte (C) 145-Dawson Cowan (G) 209-Jan Golcic (D) 211-Maxim Velikov (RW) Though no big names jump out at you, this group of prospects is pretty solid and could play a vital role on the team a few years down the road. Retooling the Prospect pool is a long process, but the cr...
