HOW THE ERIK KARLSSON TRADE WAS A WIN FOR ALL PARTIES INVOLVED

As everyone should know by now, Erik Karlsson has been traded to the Pittsburgh Penguins as part of a three-team trade with the San Jose Sharks and Montreal Canadiens.  Here is the full breakdown of the trade: Pittsburgh acquires defenseman Erik Karlsson , forward Rem Pitlick, forward Dillon Hamaliuk, and San Jose's 2026 third-round draft pick. Karlsson is signed through the 2026-27 season and his contract carries an average annual value of $11.5 million. San Jose is retaining $1.5 million of his salary yearly.  San Jose acquires Pittsburgh's 2024 first-round draft pick (top-10 protected), forward Mikael Granlund , defenseman Jan Rutta and forward Mike Hoffman . Montreal acquires Pittsburgh's 2025 second-round draft pick, defenseman Jeff Petry , goaltender Casey DeSmith and forward Nathan Legare. Jeff Petry is signed through the 2024-25 season and his contract carries an average annual value of $6.5 million. Pittsburgh is retaining $1.5 million of his salary yearly. Althoug...

How San Jose Sharks can become Contenders

The San Jose Sharks aren't quite good enough to be contenders, yet they aren't bad enough to be a lottery team yet, so they must make some moves to improve the team if they are to be a contender this season. Here is what I would to improve the San Jose Sharks. Before the season a few trades are made San Jose Sharks trade Timo Meier to the New Jersey Devils for Damon Severson, Jesper Boqvist, Fabian Zetterlund, 1st round pick '24. The Sharks get a pretty good haul for Timo Meier, who is a good player, but he might not fit into the Sharks' long-term plan. On the flip side of the trade, Meier will make the Devils' top 6 a lot more lethal. The Sharks also trade Radim Simek,  '23 2nd, '25 3rd to the Chicago Blackhawks for 3rd round pick '23. The Sharks use a 2nd-round pick and 3rd-round pick to unload Radim Simek's contract. James Reimer is traded to the Buffalo Sabres for 2nd round pick '23, 6th round pick '24. The Sabres need a starting goalie a...

How San Jose Sharks can Win their First Stanley Cup

The San Jose Sharks have never won a Stanley Cup in their franchise history, but if they make the proper changes and draft correctly, they could win Lord Stanley's Cup. This is how the San Jose Sharks could win their first-ever Stanley Cup. Before the expansion draft, one trade is made: San Jose Sharks trade Marc-Eduord Vlasic, Ryan Merkley, 1st rd pick '23 to the Seattle Kraken for 2nd rd pick '23. The Sharks retain 25% of Vlasic's contract until the 2024-25 season. This trade allows the Sharks to get rid of Vlasic's contract and trade away Ryan Merkely, who is ultra-talented but his discipline issues. San Jose Sharks lose Marcus Sorensen to the Seattle Kraken in the Expansion Draft. Before the 2021 Draft, two trades are made: San Jose Sharks trade Ryan Donato, Radim Simek, Noah Gregor to the Arizona Coyotes for Lawson Crouse, Tyler Pitlick, 4th rd pick '21. The Sharks add more physicality to the lineup with the additions of Lawson Crouse and Tyler Pitlick, wh...

WHAT IF SAN JOSE SHARKS DO A FULL REBUILD

The San Jose Sharks aren't good enough to make the playoffs, yet are too good to be a lottery team when everyone is healthy, so I think the best thing for the Sharks to do is to do a full on rebuild. This rebuild would see the Sharks trade everyone except for three players: Timo Meier, Tomas Hertl, Erik Karlsson. Before the 2020 draft, the Sharks make a couple trades: San Jose Sharks trade Evander Kane to the Florida Panthers for Frank Vatrano, Henrik Borgstrom, 2nd round pick 2020. The Florida Panthers get a top 6 winger in Evander Kane, which is important because both Dadonov and Hoffman are UFA's, while the Sharks get a solid 3rd line winger in Frank Vatrano, a prospect center in Henrik Borgstrom and a 2nd round pick. The Sharks also trade Brent Burns to the Ottawa Senators for Alex Formenton, Logan Brown, Artem Zub, 1st round pick 2020. The Ottawa Senators get a star defenseman in Brent Burns, which really bolsters their blueline, while the Sharks get two top forward prosp...
