REDRAFTING 2010 NHL DRAFT

The 2010 NHL draft was headlined by Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin but there were other star players drafted as well such as
Vladimir Tarasenko, Mark Stone, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Ryan Johansen, Justin Faulk and John Klingberg.

If the 2010 NHL draft were redraft, the landscape of the NHL would be changed forever.

*Check out my previous blogs for my other redrafts*

1. Edmonton Oilers-(C) Tyler Seguin
Original pick: Taylor Hall

At the time, it was a real debate who would go number 1 overall but now its not even close, Tyler Seguin has a way better resume.
Tyler Seguin scored 7 20+ goal seasons, which include 5 30+ goal seasons and one 40 goal season in the 2017-18 season.
Tyler Seguin and Logan Couture would form a great one-two punch down the middle for the Edmonton Oilers.

2. Boston Bruins-(RW) Vladimir Tarasenko
Original pick: Tyler Seguin

Vladimir Tarasenko gets overshadowed by Tayler Hall because of the Media overhyping Canadian players over Russian players,
but Tarasenko is every bit as great as Taylor Hall and his stats can back that up.
Vladimir Tarasenko had 5 straight 30+ goal seasons and is the best pure goal scorer in this draft besides Tyler Seguin.
The Boston Bruins are getting a player that is instant offense and will be a franchise cornerstone for years to come.

3. Florida Panthers-(LW) Taylor Hall
Original pick: Erik Gudbranson

Experts really like to overhype Taylor Hall, they think he is the best player in the draft but the reality is an overrated stat padder, who only put up 70+ points three times.
Yes, Taylor Hall won an MVP carrying a dreadful New Jersey Devils team in 2017-18 but that was one year, he hasn't been able to play like that every year.
Both Seguin and Tarasenko have been more consistent and more reliable year after year and they both have played in significant postseason action.
Taylor Hall might very skilled but there is a reason why he's only played in 5 playoff games in his career
Taylor Hall is perfect for a team like the Florida Panthers, where he put up a ton up points and be a contender in the lottery every year.

4. Columbus Blue Jackets-(C) Evgeny Kuznetsov
Original pick: Ryan Johansen

Although Ryan Johansen was a good center, he isn't the electrifying star that Evgeny Kuznetsov is.
Evgeny Kuznetsov gets overshadowed a bit playing in Washington with some all world players like Ovechkin, Backstrom and Carlson,
but make no mistake about it Kuznetsov is a star in his own right and is capable of carrying a team of his own.
The Columbus would be a terrific 2nd line center behind Ryan Getzlaf, which pushes Jordan Staal to be their 3rd line center.

5. New York Islanders-(D) John Klingberg
Original pick: Nino Niederreiter

While Mark Stone is a better player than John Klingberg, the Islanders are in dire need of a puck moving defenseman, so they go with Klingberg over Stone.
John Klingberg has been real productive since joining the NHL, he put up 40+ in 5 straight seasons.
The Islanders finally land a top pair defenseman and a defenseman that can run the powerplay.

6. Tampa Bay Lightning-(RW) Mark Stone
Original pick: Brett Connolly

Mark Stone is a huge upgrade from Brett Connolly, as the Lightning get a legit superstar caliber player as opposed to a role player.
Mark Stone was drafted in the 6th round but its safe to say he is one of the best players in the draft;
he put up 6 straight 20+ goal seasons playing on a dreadful Ottawa Senators team.
Mark Stone would take some time to develop but that isn't an issue because the Lightning in rush of his services with Martin St.Louis there.

7. Carolina Hurricanes-(LW) Jeff Skinner
Original pick: Jeff Skinner

The Carolina Hurricanes still select Jeff Skinner because despite his contract right now, he is still one of the more productive goal scorers in the draft.
Skinner has scored 20 goals in every season besides the lockout shortened season, the 2014-15 season and this season.
In 4 of the seasons, he put up 30+ goals and in 2018-19, he scored 40 goals as a member of the Buffalo Sabres.

8. Atlanta Thrashers-(C) Ryan Johansen
Original pick: Alexander Burmistrov

Rather than selecting Alexander Burmistrov, the Atlanta Thrashers select Ryan Johansen.
Ryan Johansen has put up 442 points in 660 regular season games and 43 points in 53 playoff games
The Thrashers would be instant contenders once Ryan Johansen and Joe Pavelski develop chemistry playing together on the first line.

9. Minnesota Wild-(G) Frederik Andersen
Original pick: Mikael Granlund

With Niklas Backstrom the Minnesota Wild aging, the Wild should draft Frederik Andersen as their goalie of the future.
Frederik Andersen has had 7 straight 20+ win seasons including 3 straight 30+ win seasons with the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The addition of Frederik Andersen would make the Minnesota Wild a contender when he is NHL ready.

10. New York Rangers-(D) Cam Fowler
Original pick: Dylan McIlrath

Instead of selecting Dylan McIlrath, the New York Rangers select Cam Fowler.
Cam Fowler is a great skating defenseman that can play in all situations and logs tons of minutes.
Fowler has put up 301 points in 679 games while logging over 22 minutes of ice time.
The Rangers really smooth skating defenseman like Cam Fowler, that can anchor their blueline for years to come.

11. Dallas Stars-(D) Justin Faulk
Original pick: Jack Campbell

Instead of selecting Jack Campbell, who was a massive flop, the Dallas Stars select Justin Faulk instead.
Justin Faulk is a great offensive defenseman and has put up 4 double digit goal seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Rangers really needed a puck moving defenseman like Justin Faulk, he would be a great help to their dreadful powerplay.
The Dallas Stars now have a franchise defenseman to replace John Klingberg, whom was selected by the New York Islanders.

12. Anaheim Ducks-(LW) Jaden Schwartz
Original pick: Cam Fowler

Since Cam Fowler isn't available anymore, the Anaheim Ducks select Jaden Schwartz instead.
Jaden Schwartz is a very consistent Winger who has been nothing but great since entering the league for the St.Louis Blues;
Excluding his rookie season, he has put up 55 or more points in all but 2 seasons.
Schwartz would almost immediately become the Ducks 1st line left winger upon entering the NHL.

13. Phoenix Coyotes-(C) Brock Nelson
Original pick: Brandon Gormley

Brandon Gormley was a huge bust, so the Phoenix Coyotes draft select Brock Nelson instead.
Brock Nelson is a very solid two way player that has scored 20+ goals 5 times in his career.
Brock Nelson would be a great 2nd line center behind Brayden Schenn.

14. St.Louis Blues-(RW) Brendan Gallagher
Original pick: Jaden Schwartz

Since Jaden Schwartz isn't available anymore, the St.Louis Blues select Brendan Gallagher
Brendan Gallagher is very underrated because his play style isn't flashy at all but he is very consistent, game in and game out.
Gallagher has put up 4 20+ goal seasons, including back to back 30+ goal seasons in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
The St.Louis Blues are getting a heart and soul type player that will be critical if they want to make a deep playoff run in the future.Jason Zucker

15. LA Kings-(LW/RW) Jason Zucker
Original pick: Derek Forbort

Derek Forbort wasn't worth picking in the first round, so the LA Kings select Jason Zucker instead.
Jason Zucker had 4 20+ goal seasons, including a 33 goal season in 2017-18 season with the Minnesota Wild.
Jason Zucker would be a great fit on the first line with Matt Duchene.

16. St.Louis Blues-(RW) Tyler Toffoli
Original pick: Vladimir Tarasenko

Since Vladimir Tarasenko isn't available anymore, the St.Louis Blues draft Tyler Toffoli as his replacement at right wing.
Tyler Toffoli is a great goal scorer, he has had 3 20+ goal seasons including one 30 goal campaign in 2015-16 as a member of the LA Kings.
Toffoli would be a great second line goal scoring winger for the St.Louis Blues behind Brendan Gallagher, whom they drafted earlier.

17. Colorado Avalanche-(C/LW/RW) Mikael Granlund
Original pick: Joey Hishon

Joey Hishon never panned out, so the Colorado Avalanche select Mikael Granlund, a highly skilled and electifying forward.
Mikael Granlund had lots of hype surrounding him when he entered the NHL but he never really managed to turned into the star player he was hyped to be.
Mikael Granlund would be a great fit on a veteran Colorado Avalanche team that is in need of some young talent.

18. Nashville Predators-(RW/LW) Nino Niederreiter
Original pick: Austin Watson

Rather than picking a fourth line grinder in Auston Watson, the Nashville Predators select Nino Niederreiter.
Nino Niederreiter never lived up to the hype of being the 5th overall pick but he is still a pretty good player.
Niederreiter has 3 20+ goal seasons as a member of the Minnesota Wild and would be a valuable part of the top 6.
Niederreiter fits in perfectly with Nashville, as they are in need of goal scoring wingers.

19. Florida Panthers-(G) Petr Mrazek
Original pick: Nick Bjugstad

Even though there are better skaters available, the Panthers at the time really needed a starting goalie and Petr Mrazek is certainly a starting caliber goalie.
Petr Mrazek has posted 3 20+ win seasons in his career, in two of those seasons, he had only 40 starts but managed to get at least 20 wins in each of those two seasons.
Petr Mrazek would be given every opportunity to be the starting goalie in Florida, with their best goalie being Scott Clemmensen.

20. Pittsburgh Penguins-(C) Kevin Hayes
Original pick: Beau Bennett

Beau Bennett was a huge bust for the Pittsburgh Penguins, so they select Kevin Hayes, a good two way Center.
Kevin Hayes is a big two way center that can play both center and wing and is a great penalty killer too.
Hayes can be a terrific third line center behind Crosby and Malkin.

21. Detroit Red Wings-(C/RW) Charlie Coyle
Original pick: Riley Sheahan

Instead of selecting Riley Sheahan, the Detroit Red Wings select Charlie Coyle instead.
Charlie Coyle is a big and versatile forward, capable of playing center and wing and is a hidden gem in this draft.
Coyle is a big upgrade over Riley Sheahan and would be a terrific 3rd line center for the Red Wings.

22. Montreal Canadiens-(D) Radko Gudas
Original pick: Jarred Tinordi

Jared Tinordi was a bust for the Montreal Canadiens, so they should select Radko Gudas, a bruising and physical defenseman.
Radko Gudas isn't to make a huge impact offensively but he will impact the game with his physical play, which the Canadiens need more of.
Radko Gudas could become an important fixture on defense for the Montreal Canadiens.

23. Buffalo Sabres-(RW) Bryan Rust
Original pick: Mark Pysyk

Mark Pysyk wasn't worth picking in the first round, so the Buffalo Sabres select Bryan Rust.
Bryan Rust is a gritty forward that complements star players well and is a terrific penalty killer.
Bryan Rust can play as a third line forward or he can complement the star players in the top 6.

24. Chicago Blackhawks-(LW) Zach Hyman
Original pick: Kevin Hayes

Since Kevin Hayes isn't available anymore, the Chicago Blackhawks select Zach Hyman instead.
Zach Hyman is quite underrated because he plays with many star players in Toronto, but he is a great player in his own right.
Hyman would be a great fit in Chicago playing with either Phil Kessel or Patrick Kane.

25. Florida Panthers-(C) Nick Bjugstad
Original pick: Quinton Howden

The Florida Panthers still select Nick Bjugstad, but at 25 rather than 19.
Nick Bjugstad was pretty good for the Florida Panthers early in his career before injuries started piling up.
Nick Bjugstad had 191 points in 394 games with the Florida Panthers, which is solid production.

26. Washington Capitals-(C) Calle Jarnkrok
Original pick: Evgeny Kuznetsov

The Washington Capitals miss out of Evgeny Kuznetsov, so the select Calle Jarnkrok, a very solid center.
Calle Jarnkrok is a versatile center that can play in all situations and anywhere in the top 9.
The Washington Capitals could really use a versatile player like Jarnkrok.

27. Phoenix Coyotes-(RW) Brett Connolly
Original pick: Mark Visentin

Mark Visentin was a huge disappointment for the Phoenix Coyotes, so they select Brett Connolly instead.
Brett Connolly is a speedy winger, that can kill penalties and be a valuable part of the powerplay.
Brett Connolly would be an important role player for the Phoenix Coyotes.

28. San Jose Sharks-(LW/RW) Michael Ferland
Original pick: Charlie Coyle

Since Charlie Coyle isn't available anymore, the San Jose Sharks select Michael Ferland.
Michael Ferland is a goal scoring power forward who has put up 40 points twice in his career
Ferland in reality is a 3rd liner but if he plays with some star players he could play in the top 6.

29. Anaheim Ducks-(RW) Joonas Donskoi
Original pick: Emerson Etem

Emerson Etem was a bust, so the Anaheim Ducks select Joonas Donskoi instead.
Joonas Donskoi is a speedy winger who was overlooked in San Jose but is now finally having a breakout season with Colorado.
Donskoi would be a solid 3rd line winger for the Anaheim Ducks.

30. New York Islanders-(RW) Jespar Fast
Original pick: Brock Nelson

Since Brock Nelson isn't available anymore, the New York Islanders have to settle for one of the more reliable players in the draft Jespar Fast.
Jespar Fast isn't a player who will put up a ton of points but coaches love him because he is dependable in all situations and works hard.
Fast excels along the boards and on the forecheck and at times will take key faceoffs.
The New York Islanders not only add a great player but they at the same time make the New York Rangers significantly worse.

FANTASY HOCKEY WAIVER WIRE PLAYERS TO PICKUP

C Sean Couturier -After missing 2+ years, Sean Couturier is back and it seems like he hasn't missed a beat. Believe it or not, Couturier has been one of the top centers in the league so far with his all-around play, putting up 2 goals, 3 assists, 2 PPP, 63 FW, 24 SOG, and 1 SHP. Despite showing that he is still an elite center, Couturier is only owned in 20% of fantasy leagues. Pick him up now, while you still can. Ryan Johansen - Serves as the Avalanche's 2nd line center and plays on their all-world 1st pp unit. Despite not being the player he used to be, Johansen is still a valuable fantasy asset because of the players he plays with. Johansen has 4 goals and 4 PPPs along with 63 FW so far this season. He is owned in 29% of fantasy leagues. Sean Monahan - Someone must have gotten a time machine and put Sean Monahan in it because he is playing like he was back when he was in his prime. Monahan has been arguably the best player on Montreal this year, with 3 goals, 6 points, 2 PP

FANTASY HOCKEY WAIVER WIRE PLAYERS TO PICKUP

Here are some players you should pickup in Fantasy Hockey, sorted by position. Center Colton Sissons Colton Sissons is one of the best 4th line centers in the league, but in fantasy hockey, he could be even more valuable than he actually is in real life because of what he provides in the peripheral categories. So far this season Sissions has 5 goals, 1 PPP, 1 SHP, 12 PIM, 20 SOG, 89 FW, 15 hits, and 9 blocks. This is a terrific stat line and although you can't count on Sissons scoring a ton, he will fill out the FW, Hits, and blocks usually. Sissons is owned in 6% of fantasy leagues, snag him up while you can. Nick Bjugstad Nick Bjugstad is having an excellent year so far with the Arizona Coyotes, in fact he has played so well that he earned himself a promotion to play on the 2nd line along with Mattias Maccelli and Lawson Crouse. Bjugstad also gets time on Arizona's 2nd PP unit and 2nd PK unit. Bjugstad may not be a name who stands out to casuals, but his fantasy stat line is

Fantasy Hockey Forwards to Trade For

Here is a list of Players who you should consider trading for in Fantasy Hockey. Tage Thompson Tage Thompson had very high expectations of him heading into this season but has been a massive disappointment to this point in the season with only 7 goals, 8 assists, 4 PPP, 60 SOG, and 99 FW. Thompson has been better after coming back from injury and you would think that he is going to eventually start putting points in bunches. Because of how bad Thompson's statline is this season. it would be a good idea to trade for him because you may not have to give up a lot in return.  Elias Lindholm Elias Lindholm is another player who has had a slow start to the season with only 7 goals, 10 assists, 3 PPP, 68 SOG, and 297 FW so far this season. Lindholm is definitely going to want to play better if he wants to increase his value for his next contract and also showcase himself for a trade at the deadline. If Lindholm gets dealt to a contending team, his fantasy value would drastically improve b
