Why Pittsburgh Penguins Should Rebuild

The Pittsburgh Penguins have an aging core and might not be good enough to make the playoffs anymore, so I think the Penguins should seriously consider rebuilding. It would take some time, but if they rebuild correctly, the Penguins could be a playoff-caliber team in a few years. This is how the Pittsburgh Penguins should rebuild.

At the 2022 Trade deadline, a few major trades are made:

Pittsburgh Penguins trade Evgeni Malkin to the Dallas Stars for Roope Hintz, Denis Gurianov, Mavrik Bourque, and a 2022 1st round pick.

With the addition of Evgeni Malkin, the Stars become immediate contenders, while the Penguins get three very top 6 caliber players and a 1st round pick.

The Penguins also trade Kris Letang to the Nashville Predators for Dante Fabbro, Philip Tomasino, 2022 1st round pick.

The Nashville Predators bolster their defense with the addition of Kris Letang, while the Penguins get two good young players and a 1st round pick.

Jeff Carter, Bryan Rust are traded to the Edmonton Oilers for Kyle Turris, Zach Kassian, 2023 1st round pick.

The Oilers bolster their roster with the additions of Carter and Rust for the playoffs at the cost of their 1st round pick.

The Pittsburgh Penguins miss the playoffs in the 2021-22 season and end up with the 15th pick in the draft.

Before the 2022 draft, two trades are made:

Pittsburgh Penguins trade Jason Zucker to the Calgary Flames for Dillon Dube, Juuso Valimaki, 2022 2nd round pick.

The Flames add a much-needed top 6 winger in Jason Zucker, while the Penguins add good two young players and a 2nd round pick.

Brian Dumoulin is traded to the Chicago Blackhawks for Nic Beaudin, Mike Hardman, and a 2022 3rd round pick.

The Blackhawks add a top 4 defenseman in Brian Dumoulin, while the Penguins add two young prospects and a 3rd round pick.

At the 2022 draft, the Pittsburgh Penguins trade picks 45, 47 to the Arizona Coyotes for picks 36, 68.

15-Issac Howard

20-Elias Salomonsson

36-Cruz Lucius

68-Simon Forsmark

The Pittsburgh Penguins finally start to replenish their farm system, which was the worst-ranked farm system in the NHL.

Pittsburgh Penguins miss the playoffs again in the 2022-23 season and end up with the 13th pick in the draft.

Before the 2023 draft, two trades are made:

Pittsburgh Penguins trade Sidney Crosby, Michael Matheson to the Minnesota Wild for Marco Rossi, Matthew Boldy, Carson Lambos, Alexander Khovanov, 2023 1st round pick.

The Penguins get a major haul in exchange for their franchise player, signaling a changing of the guards in Pittsburgh and ushering a new era.

The Penguins also trade Jake Guentzel to the New Jersey Devils for Nolan Foote, 2023 1st round pick.

The Devils get a goal-scoring winger in Jake Guentzel, while the Penguins get Nolan Foote and a 1st round pick.

2023 Draft

13-Otto Stenberg

26-Cam Squires

Pittsburgh continues to improve its farm system with the addition of these three stud players.

Pittsburgh Penguins re-sign all Non-Roster RFAs.

Pittsburgh Penguins make the playoffs in the 2023-24 season, but get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs.

After the 2023-24 season, a few major trades are made:

Pittsburgh Penguins trade Denis Gurianov, Dillon Dube, Juuso Valimaki, 2024 1st round pick to the LA Kings for Rasmus Kupari, Arthur Kaliyev.

The Penguins added two high-end prospects, which help bolster their firepower in the lineup.

Pittsburgh Penguins acquire Juuse Saros from Nashville Predators for Tristan Jarry, 2025 2nd round pick.

This is a simple trade, which sees the Penguins acquire Juuse Saros from the Predators for Tristan Jarry and a 2nd round pick.

The Penguins also trade Roope Hintz to the Winnipeg Jets for 2025 2nd round pick, 2026 2nd rd pick.

The Penguins don't need Roope Hintz anymore, so he is traded to the Jets for two second-round picks.

Alexander Khovanov is traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Daniil Tarasov, 2025 2nd round pick.

Columbus needs a number 2 center, and Khovanov helps fill that void, while for the Penguins, Tarasov has a ton of potential, and may one day be a starter in the NHL.

Pittsburgh Penguins buyout Marcus Pettersson; this buyout costs them 1.34 million annually until the 25-26 season.

Pittsburgh Penguins re-sign a few players:

Marco Rossi-7yrs/6.5M per

Matthew Boldy-6yrs/5.5M per

Carson Lambos-6yrs/5M per

TIPS FOR DECIDING WHO TO KEEP FOR KEEPER/DYNASTY LEAGUES

Keeper fantasy leagues are a variation of traditional fantasy sports leagues where participants are allowed to keep a certain number of players from their previous season's roster onto their team for the upcoming season. The number of players that can be kept, as well as the specific rules regarding keeping players, vary from league to league and are typically determined by the league commissioner or by a set of agreed-upon rules among league members. In a keeper league, the kept players usually come with a cost, such as forfeiting a specific draft pick in the upcoming draft or having to pay a predetermined fee. This adds a strategic element to the game, as managers must decide which players to keep based on their performance, potential, and value relative to the cost of keeping them. Keeper leagues often provide a deeper level of engagement and strategy compared to standard fantasy leagues because managers need to consider long-term player development and roster management beyond ...

2024 Offseason Preview ft. New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils the playoffs in the 2023-24 season after making it into the second round of the playoffs last season, and finished the season with a total of 81 points, a 38-39-5 record; With Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier in the midst of their primes, the New Jersey Devils really need to start to buckle down and put together the pieces for a contending team. The good news is that the New Jersey Devils have the benefit of having the 10th overall pick, which they could move to acquire a netminder, and they also have plenty of cap space to add other players as well. This coming offseason is a big one for the New Jersey Devils front office because after striking out on a netminder last offseason, the pressure to acquire a netminder this offseason is immense for GM Tom Fitzgerald, who might be on the hotseat if he can't find a way to fix the mess. Before the 2024 NHL Draft, the New Jersey Devils make two major trades New Jersey Devils acquire Jacob Markstrom, Matthew Coronato, 1st...
