REDRAFTING 2007 NHL DRAFT

The 2007 Draft was loaded with talent with Patrick Kane going first overall to the Chicago Blackhawks but there were a ton of mistakes made after that selection.
If the 2007 draft were to be redrafted, the landscape of the NHL would be very different..

*Check out previous redrafts on my blog before continuing with one*

1. Chicago Blackhawks-(RW) Patrick Kane
Original pick: Patrick Kane

Chicago Blackhawks still select Patrick Kane; he is already one of the 100 greatest players of all time and should be a hall of famer.
Patrick Kane has put up over 1,000 points in less than 1,000 regular season games and has 123 points in 127 playoff games.
Patrick Kane is a game changer and is threat to score or set up a teammate every time he is on the ice.

2. Philadelphia Flyers-(LW) Jamie Benn
Original pick: James Van Riemsdyk

James Van Riemsdyk had a great NHL career but he's not the difference maker that Jamie Benn would be for Philadelphia Flyers.
Jamie Benn had 6 seasons with 25+ goals and 60+ points, including 3 straight seasons where he had 30+ goals and 75+ points.
There is more to Jamie Benn's game than his stats, he a big physical presence and can make a difference by throwing his body around.
Jamie Benn would be a perfect on the line with Jeff Carter, forming a deadly dynamic duo.

3. Phoenix Coyotes-(D) PK Subban
Original pick: Kyle Turris

Kyle Turris never really lived up to his draft hype and was a disappointment for the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Phoenix Coyotes should take the best player avaialble, who is PK Subban, a former Norris Trophy winner.
Pk Subban scored 10 goals and 40 points in 4 season and scored 10 goals in 6 different seasons.
Subban is be a defenseman that Phoenix Coyotes could build their franchise around.

4. Los Angeles Kings-(LW) Max Pacioretty
Original pick: Thomas Hickey

The LA Kings made a major mistake taking Thomas Hickey with their first round pick in 2007; they should have taken Max Pacioretty, one of the premier goal scorers in the league.
Max Pacioretty had 6 30+ goals goal seasons including 4 straight 30 goal campaigns with the Montreal Canadiens from 2013-2017.
Max Pacioretty would be a perfect fit on the top line on the second line of the LA Kings, who are in need of goal scoring.

5. Washington Capitals-(D) Ryan McDonagh
Original pick: Karl Alzner

While Karl Alzner was a nice defenseman when he was with the Washington Capitals, there were better defenseman available.
Ryan McDonagh is an underrated defenseman is way more valuable that what his stats show;
he is a tremendous two way defender, that plays in all situations and has good leadership skills.
The Capitals desperately need help defense and McDonagh would bring stability to the blueline.

6. Edmonton Oilers-(C) Logan Couture
Original pick: Sam Gagner

Sam Gagner wasn't worth picking this early in the draft, so the Edmonton Oilers hold off on drafting him.
Instead, the Oilers will select Logan Couture, a reliable big game center, who raises his level of play in the playoffs.
Couture had 256 G and 546 points in 715 regular season games but he has an remarkable 48 G 101 points in 116 playoff games.
Logan Couture would very become the first line center on a bad team like the Edmonton Oilers.

7. Columbus Blue Jackets-(RW) Jakub Voracek
Original pick: Jakub Voracek

The Columbus Blue Jackets select Jakub Voracek, a highly skilled playmaking winger, but this time around they should be use him in the top 6.
Jakub Voracek put up 20 G and 60+ pts in 5 different seasons and when paired with high-end players like Claude Giroux, he can top 80 points.
Jakub Voracek would be a perfect fit on the 2nd line along with Jordan Staal.

8. Boston Bruins-(RW) Wayne Simmonds
Original pick: Zach Hamill

Zach Hamill was a bust for the Boston Bruins, so they select one of the best powerforwards in the draft, Wayne Simmonds.
Wayne Simmonds had 6 straight 25+ goal seasons, including back to back 30 goal seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Wayne Simmonds is the type of player the the Bruins always strive to get and would be a perfect fit in their system.

9. San Jose Sharks-(LW) James Van Riemsdyk
Original pick: Logan Couture

It will be impossible for the San Jose Sharks to replace Logan Couture, but James Van Riemsdyk could do some damage in the top 6 of the Sharks
JVR had 5 25+ goal seasons, including 2 30 goal seasons in his career that was split between Toronto and Philadelphia.
JVR would be a perfect fit in on the top line of the San Jose Sharks alongside Joe Thornton.

10. Florida Panthers-(D) Kevin Shattenkirk
Original pick: Keaton Ellerby

Rather than selecting Keaton Ellerby, the Florida Panthers should have selected Kevin Shattenkirk, a very good offensive defenseman.
Kevin Shatttenkirk had 5 seasons with 40+ points as a defenseman and in 3 of those seasons he had 10+ goals.
Kevins Shattenkirk would provide a nice boost in offense from the backend for the Florida Panthers.

11. Carolina Hurricanes-(C) Kyle Turris
Original pick: Brandon Sutter

Instead of selecting Kyle Turris, the Carolina Hurricanes select Kyle Turris, a good two way center.
Turris 3 20+ goal seasons from 2013-2017 and had really good postseason runs in 2013 and 2017 with the Ottawa Senators.
Turris would be subject to trade bait because the Hurricanes already have Patrice Bergeron and Anze Kopitar.

12. Montreal Canadiens-(D) Jake Muzzin
Original pick: Ryan McDonagh

Since Ryan McDonagh isn't available anymore, the Montreal Canadiens select Jake Muzzin.
Jake Muzzin was big part the LA Kings championship teams in 2014 and was constantly paired alongside Drew Doughty.
Without the Services of Ryan McDonagh and PK Subban, Jake Muzzin will have major shoes to fill.

13. St.Louis Blues-(LW) David Perron
Original pick: Lars Eller

Instead of selecting Lars Eller, the St.Louis Blues select David Perron, a goal scoring winger.
David Perron had 5 20+ goal seasons in his career and is permanent fixture in the Top 6 for the St.Louis Blues.
David Perron would be a great fit alongside Jonathan Toews, who was drafted in 2006.

14. Colorado Avalanche-(RW) Evgenii Dadonov
Original pick: Kevin Shattenkirk

Since Kevin Shattenkirk isn't available anymore, the Colorado Avalanche select Evgenii Dadonov, a highly skilled winger.
Evgenii Dadonov wasn't NHL ready his first go around in the NHL but upon returning to the NHL, he was a permanent fixture in the top 6 for the Florida Panthers.
Evgenii Dadonov would fit great in the top 6 for the Colorado Avalanche.

15. Edmonton Oilers-(D) Alec Martinez
Original pick: Alex Plante

Alex Plante was a major bust, so the Edmonton Oilers select Alec Martinez, a great two way defenseman.
Alec Martinez was a big part of the LA kings championship team in 2012 and 2014 and scored the cup clinching goal in 2014
The Edmonton Oilers would definately benifit from having a defenseman like Martinez on the blueline.

16. Minnesota Wild-(C) Mikael Backlund
Original pick: Colton Gillies

Colton Gillies was a bust for the Minnesota Wild, so they select Mikael Backlund instead.
Backlund had 365 pts in 690 games, including 3 20+ goal seasons in his career.
Mikael Backlund is a great two way center who plays in all situations and would greatly improve the center depth for the Minnesota Wild.

17. New York Rangers-(F) Alex Killorn
Original pick: Alexei Cherepanov

Instead of selecting Alexei Cherepanov, the New York Rangers select Alex Killorn, a gritty top 6 forward.
Alex Killorn is the typical glue guy to a line that does all the dirty work for skilled players in Tampa Bay and his efforts typically go unnoticed.
Now that Killorn is playing for a team like the Rangers, he might have to score more than he would in Tampa Bay.

18. St.Louis Blues-(D) Karl Alzner
Original pick: Ian Cole

Ian Cole was a late bloomer and didn't really do anything with the St.Louis Blues, so they select the more NHL ready Karl Alzner
Before signing with the Montreal Canadiens was a staple on the blueline for the Washington Capitals.
He played well alongside John Carlson in Washington, so i think that he would be a perfit fit with another top end defenseman in St.Louis.

19. Anaheim Ducks-(C) Lars Eller
Original pick: Logan MacMillan

Logan MacMillan was a huge dissapointment as a first round pick for the Anaheim Ducks, so they select Lars Eller instead.
Lars Eller is a great two way center that is highly skilled and plays in all situations.
Eller could be an important role player on a team like the Anaheim Ducks.

20. Pittsburgh Penguins-(C) Brandon Sutter
Original pick: Angelo Esposito

Angelo Esposito was a major disappointment as a first round pick of the Pittsburgh Penguins, so they select Brandon Sutter instead.
Brandon Sutter was a great two way center with the Carolina Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Penguins but wasn't as effective in Vancouver.
Sutter is the ideal third line center on a team like the Pittsburgh Penguins.

21. Edmonton Oilers-(C) Sam Gagner
Original pick: Riley Nash

The Edmonton Oilers still select Sam Gagner but 15 slots later, meaning they get to add two other valuable players to the lineup.
Sam Gagner was rushed in his development and never fulfilled his potential, but now with Logan Couture on the team he doesn't need to be the first line center.

22. Montreal Canadiens-(LW) Carl Hagelin
Original pick: Max Pacioretty

It will be near impossible to replace the production that Max Pacioretty brought to the Montreal Canadiens, so they just best player available.
Carl Hagelin has gamebreaking speed and is threat to get a breakaway every time he's on the ice because of that speed.
Hagelin fits in perfectly with the Montreal Canadiens as a 3rd liner and penalty killer.

23. Nashville Predators-(D) Ian Cole
Original pick: Jonathan Blum

Jonathan Blum was a major bust for the Nashville Predators, so the Preds select Ian Cole, a reliable defensive defenseman.
Ian Cole was a major part of the blueline for the Pittsburgh Penguins, when they won back to back cups in 2016 and 2017.
The Nashville Predators could really use Ian Cole's stability on the blueline.

24. Calgary Flames-(C) Nick Bonino
Original pick: Mikael Backlund

Since Mikael Backlund isn't available anymore, Nick Bonino is the best center left on the board at this point in the draft.
Nick Bonino is good defensive center and penalty killer and fits perfectly on a team like the Calgary Flames.

25. Vancouver Canucks-(D) Justin Braun
Original pick: Patrick White

The Vancouver Canucks are in major need of a solid defensive defenseman and Justin Braun fits the bill perfectly.
Justin Braun had been paired with Marc-Eduord Vlasic for a long time as the shutdown pair in San Jose.
Since they selected Vlasic in 2005, he is the perfect selection and give the Vancouver Canucks now have their shutdown pair for a long time.

26. St.Louis Blues-(LW) Patrick Maroon
Original pick: David Perron

Since David Perron was selected earlier in the draft, the St.Louis Blues draft the local boy Patrick Maroon.
Patrick Maroon was a big part of the Blues championship team in 2019 and is a great 3rd liner.
He is strong on the puck in the corners and is a force in front of the oppositions' goalie, making him perfect for the 2nd powerplay.

27. Detroit Red Wings-(D) Carl Gunnarsson
Original pick: Brendan Smith

Brendan Smith was a waste of a first round pick for the Detroit Red Wings, so they select Carl Gunnarsson.
Carl Gunnarsson is a solid defensive defenseman that could fit perfectly on a team like the Red Wings;
he can doesn't need to play heavy minutes but he is real effective when being paired with high end defenseman.

28. San Jose Sharks-(D) Thomas Hickey
Original pick: Nick Petrecki

Thomas Hickey struggled with injuries throughout his career but when healthy he was a decent defenseman.
Hickey is a smooth skating defenseman with decent size and is good defensively;
he would be a great fit on the blueline for the San Jose Sharks.

29. Ottawa Senators-(LW/RW) Paul Byron
Original pick: Jim O'Brien

Rather than selecting a major dud in Jim O'Brien, they select Paul Byron, a solid 3rd line scorer.
Byron had back to back 20+ goal seasons and a 15 goal campain in 2018-19.
On top of being a solid goal scorer, he is also a good penalty killer.

30. Phoenix Coyotes-(C) Riley Nash
Original pick: Nick Ross

Nick Ross never made it to the NHL, so the Coyotes select Riley Nash, a solid fourth line center and penalty killer.
There isn't anything special about Riley Nash but at least he is a solid role player.

Keeper fantasy leagues are a variation of traditional fantasy sports leagues where participants are allowed to keep a certain number of players from their previous season's roster onto their team for the upcoming season. The number of players that can be kept, as well as the specific rules regarding keeping players, vary from league to league and are typically determined by the league commissioner or by a set of agreed-upon rules among league members. This adds a strategic element to the game, as managers must decide which players to keep based on their performance, potential, and value relative to the cost of keeping them. Keeper leagues often provide a deeper level of engagement and strategy compared to standard fantasy leagues because managers need to consider long-term player development and roster management beyond ...

The New Jersey Devils the playoffs in the 2023-24 season after making it into the second round of the playoffs last season, and finished the season with a total of 81 points, a 38-39-5 record; With Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier in the midst of their primes, the New Jersey Devils really need to start to buckle down and put together the pieces for a contending team. The good news is that the New Jersey Devils have the benefit of having the 10th overall pick, which they could move to acquire a netminder, and they also have plenty of cap space to add other players as well. This coming offseason is a big one for the New Jersey Devils front office because after striking out on a netminder last offseason, the pressure to acquire a netminder this offseason is immense for GM Tom Fitzgerald, who might be on the hotseat if he can't find a way to fix the mess. Before the 2024 NHL Draft, the New Jersey Devils make two major trades New Jersey Devils acquire Jacob Markstrom, Matthew Coronato, 1st...
