How San Jose Sharks can become Contenders

The San Jose Sharks aren't quite good enough to be contenders, yet they aren't bad enough to be a lottery team yet, so they must make some moves to improve the team if they are to be a contender this season. Here is what I would to improve the San Jose Sharks.



Before the season a few trades are made


San Jose Sharks trade Timo Meier to the New Jersey Devils for Damon Severson, Jesper Boqvist, Fabian Zetterlund, 1st round pick '24.

The Sharks get a pretty good haul for Timo Meier, who is a good player, but he might not fit into the Sharks' long-term plan. On the flip side of the trade, Meier will make the Devils' top 6 a lot more lethal.


The Sharks also trade Radim Simek,  '23 2nd, '25 3rd to the Chicago Blackhawks for 3rd round pick '23.

The Sharks use a 2nd-round pick and 3rd-round pick to unload Radim Simek's contract.


James Reimer is traded to the Buffalo Sabres for 2nd round pick '23, 6th round pick '24.

The Sabres need a starting goalie and James Reimer is one of the better options out there on the trade market.


Kevin Labanc is traded to the Arizona Coyotes for '23 3rd, 24 4th.

The Sharks unload Kevin Lebanc's contract for some draft picks.


Ryan Merkley is traded to the Washington Capitals for Alexei Protas.

Ryan Merkley has been a highly hyped prospect since he was drafted in 2018, but he just hasn't lived up to expectations with the Sharks; the Caps need more depth on defense, while San Jose could benefit from having a big forward like Protas.


San Jose Sharks re-sign the following players:

Mario Ferraro-3yrs/3M per

Noah Gregor-2yrs/1M per

San Jose Sharks sign the following Free Agents:

Sonny Milano-1yr/2M

Fantasy Hockey All Star Edition Defenseman

 These are the best defenseman so far this season in Fantasy Hockey: Rasmus Dahlin Rasmus Dahlin has been by far the best defenseman in Fantasy this season, and it isn't close; he has 13 goals, 35 assists, 23 PPP, 119 SOG and a +16 rating on a bad Buffalo team. If Dahlin can sustain this type of production for the rest of the season, he will be a favorite to win the Norris trophy. Cale Makar Cale Makar has been a tad bit disappointing considering he was a top 5 pick in most fantasy drafts, but he is still having a fantastic season; he has tallied 13 goals, 30 assists, 21 PPP, 136 SOG, along with 3 GWG and a +7 rating. His dip in production may be due in large part to the injuries on Colorado, but as the team gets healthy, look for a strong second half from Cale Makar and Colorado. FANTASY HOCKEY WAIVER WIRE PLAYERS TO PICKUP

C Sean Couturier -After missing 2+ years, Sean Couturier is back and it seems like he hasn't missed a beat. Believe it or not, Couturier has been one of the top centers in the league so far with his all-around play, putting up 2 goals, 3 assists, 2 PPP, 63 FW, 24 SOG, and 1 SHP. Despite showing that he is still an elite center, Couturier is only owned in 20% of fantasy leagues. Pick him up now, while you still can. Ryan Johansen - Serves as the Avalanche's 2nd line center and plays on their all-world 1st pp unit. Despite not being the player he used to be, Johansen is still a valuable fantasy asset because of the players he plays with. Johansen has 4 goals and 4 PPPs along with 63 FW so far this season. He is owned in 29% of fantasy leagues. Sean Monahan - Someone must have gotten a time machine and put Sean Monahan in it because he is playing like he was back when he was in his prime.
