The NHL's regular season starting to wind down, so I thought it would be fitting to track the race for various awards.
Hart:
C.McDavid
D.Pastrnak
L.Draisaitl
T.Thompson
J.Robetson
Connor McDavid is the favorite to win the Hart Trophy this season, after losing out on the Hart Trophy last season, despite a 122-point season. McDavid is on track to set new career highs in goals, PPP, and points. If there is anyone that has a shot at challenging McDavid, it is David Pastrnak, because not only is he having a great individual season, he is helping lead the Bruins to the best record in the NHL. Leon Draisaitl is constantly overlooked because he plays with McDavid, but few players in the league are more consistent than him. Tage Thompson and Jason Robertson have cooled off a bit lately, so they most likely will not be the Hart winner.
Art Ross:
C.McDavid-124
L.Draisaitl-97
N.Kucherov-94
D.Pastrnak-86
T.Thompson-85
Connor McDavid is running away with this award right now; he has 27 more points than the next closest player, who also happens to be his teammate Leon Draisaitl, who has 97 points. Nikita Kucherov has really heated up after the all-star break and jumped over Tage Thompson and Jason Robertson in the Art Ross race.
Rocket Richard:
C.McDavid-54
D.Pastrnak-45
T.Thompson-42
M.Rantanen-42
L.Draisaitl/B.Point-41
Along with being the leading candidate for the Art Ross, Connor McDavid also is leading the race for the Rocket Richard, he has 9 more goals than the next closest player, David Pastrnak. Tage Thompson and Mikko Rantanen are tied with 42 goals apiece, while Leon Draisaitl and Brayden Point are tied with 41 goals apiece.
Norris:
E.Karlsson-82
R.Dahlin-63
J.Morrissey-67
A.Fox-58
C.Makar-51
Erik Karlsson is the Favorite for the Norris Trophy, as he has distanced himself from the pack in terms of point scoring. Both Josh Morrissey and Rasmus Dahlin are also Norris worthy candidates, but they can't compare to Karlsson's 82 point campaign.
Vezina:
L.Ullmark-32-4-1, 1.89 GAA, .938 SV%, 2 SO
J.Oettinger-27-9-10, 2.40 GAA, .920 SV%, 4 SO
C.Hellebuyck-27-20-2, 2.63 GAA, .918 SV%, 3 SO
Ilya Sorokin-23-18-6, 2.35 GAA, .926 SV%, 5 SO
Andrei Vasilevskiy-29-16-4, 2.69 GAA, .914 SV%, 2 SO
Linus Ullmark is the Favorite to win the Vezina; the distance between him and everyone isn't close at all. He leads all goalies in Wins, GAA, and SV% thanks to the unreal season the Bruins have been having. Jake Oettinger and Connor Hellebuyck are both having great seasons and you can make a case for either being the second-best goalie this year. Ilya Sorokin has been quietly one of the best goalies statistically and has been a major reason the Islanders are even in the playoff picture. Andrei Vasilevskiy can never be left out of the Vezina race, if he is in his prime, he will have a chance to take home this award.
Calder:
M.Beniers-47 pts
L.Thompson-20-13-3, 2.66 GAA, .914 SV%, 2 SO
O.Power-24 pts
M.McTavish-38 pts
The Calder race is going to be between Matty Beniers, the outstanding rookie for the Seattle Kraken, and Logan Thompson, the goalie who has helped guide Vegas to the no.1 seed in the Pacific division. Owen Power and Mason McTavish are having solid seasons, but they just haven't done enough to warrant the Calder trophy.
Selke:
P.Bergeron-63 Games Played, 47 Blocks, 33 TkA, 17:47 TOI, +29
N.Hischier-63 Games Played, 47 Blocks, 47 Takeaways, 19:20 TOI, +29
J.Staal-62 Games Played, 31 Blocks, 28 Takeaways, 16:16 TOI, +9
E.Pettersson-58 Games Played, 71 Blocks, 40 Takeaways, 20:15 Time on Ice, +11
M.Marner-60 Games Played, 33 Blocked Shots, 80 TkA, 21:01 Time on Ice, +11
As long as Patrice Bergeron is still in the league, he will be the favorite for the Selke, he is that special of a two-way force. Looking at the other candidates worthy of mentioning, there are two in particular that stand out: Nico Hischier, the Captain of the New Jersey Devils, and Jordan Staal of the Carolina Hurricanes, both players have helped lead their teams to outstanding records and have been impactful on both sides of the puck. Although Pettersson and Marner aren't in the same class as the other three candidates, they are nonetheless still having an impact on their respective teams on both sides of the puck.
Jack Adams:
Jim Montgomery (BOS)
Rod Brind'Amour (CAR)
Lindy Ruff (NJ)
Bruce Cassidy (VGK)
Peter DeBoer (DAL)
Jim Montgomery should be the favorite to win the Jack Adams by a mile because he has the Boston Bruins in position to win the Presidents' trophy, despite many predicting they might not even make the playoffs. Both Rod Brind'Amour and Lindy Ruff deserve to be nominated for the award, as they both have done fantastic jobs with their respective teams, and have Carolina and New Jersey in 2nd and 3rd place in the league respectively. Bruce Cassidy and Pete DeBoer also have done a great job with their teams, but both teams had pretty high expectations heading into the season.
