Why St.Louis Blues should consider Rebuilding

The St.Louis Blues are a team that is stuck in no man's land; they aren't nearly good enough to be legit contenders, yet they aren't entirely bad enough to be a lottery team. So the most logical thing to do is to move a couple of veteran players and build from the draft. This is how I would rebuild the St.Louis Blues.

At the 2022 Trade Deadline, two major trades are made:

St.Louis Blues trade Vladimir Tarasenko to the Carolina Hurricanes for Nino Niederreiter, Ryan Suzuki, 2023 2nd round pick. If the Hurricanes make the playoffs, the 2nd round pick becomes a 1st round pick.

This is a great team for both teams; Carolina gets a top 6 scorer to play on the first line with Aho and Svechnikov, while the Blues get a top 6 forward in Nino Niederreiter, a solid prospect in Ryan Suzuki, and a draft pick.

The Blues also trade David Perron to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Nick Ritchie, Joseph Duszak, 1st round pick '22. St.Louis retains 1 million of David Perron's contract.

Since the Blues are rebuilding, it is best to trade David Perron to a contender since he will be a UFA at the end of the season. This is a pretty good return for a rental.

The St.Louis Blues miss the playoffs in the 2021-22 season and end up with the 14th pick in the draft.

Before the 2022 draft, two trades are made:

St.Louis Blues trade Brayden Schenn to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Alexandre Texier, Liam Foudy, 2022 1st round pick.

The Blue Jackets get their number 1 center, while the Blues get two solid young players and a 1st round pick.

The Blues also trade Justin Faulk to the Boston Bruins for Matt Grzelcyk, Jake DeBrusk, Jack Studnicka, 2022 1st round pick.

The Bruins really need more scoring from the Back-end and Justin Faulk would be a much-needed upgrade over Matt Grzelcyk.

At the 2022 draft, St.Louis Blues trade pick 29 to the Ottawa Senators for picks 41, 64.

2022 Draft

14-Elias Salomonsson

25-Lian Bichsel

41-Miko Matikka

64-Ludwig Persson

78-David Goyette

110-Topias Leinonen

142-Ales Cech

The St.Louis Blues added some good prospects to a depleted farm system, that was one of the worst in the entire NHL.

St.Louis Blues re-sign a few players:

Nino Neiderreiter-5yrs/5.5M per

Jake DeBrusk-3yrs/3M per

Zach Sanford-2yrs/2.25M per

Liam Foudy-2yrs/1.2M per

Ville Husso-1yr deal

Niko Mikkola, Jake Wallman-1yr deals

St.Louis Blues re-sign all Non-Roster RFAs

St.Louis Blues plummet in the standings in the 2022-23 season and end up with the 8th worst record in the league.

Since the Hurricanes made the playoffs with Tarasenko, the Blues will receive their 2023 1st round pick.

2023 Draft

8-Emil Jarventie

24-Kimo Gruber

40-William Whitelaw

The Blues add three good forwards who will be an essential part of the team down the road.

St.Louis Blues re-sign a few players:

Ryan O'Reilly-8yrs/8.5M per

Robert Thomas-5yrs/4.75M per

Jordan Kyrou-3yrs/3.5M per

Jack Studnicka-2yr/1.5M per

Joel Hofer-2yr deal

St.Louis Blues re-sign all Non-Roster RFAs

St.Louis Blues miss the playoff again in the 2023-24 season and end up with the 10th worst record, luckily the blues win the draft lottery to end up with the 1st pick in the draft.

2024 Draft

1-Cole Eiserman

St.Louis Blues draft Cole Eiserman, a future star in the league.

St.Louis Blues re-sign a few players:

Liam Foudy-1yr/3M

Ryan Suzuki-2yrs/2.8M per

Before the 2024-25 season, a few trades are made:

St.Louis Blues trade Pavel Buchnevich to the Pittsburgh Penguins for Samuel Poulin, 2025 2nd round pick.

The Blues add more depth to their lineup while the Penguins add a top 6 winger in Buchnevich.

The Blues also trade Brandon Saad to the LA Kings for Samuel Helenius, Helge Grans, 2025 3rd round pick.  If the Kings make the playoffs or Saad scores 15+ goals, the 3rd round pick becomes a second-round pick.

St.Louis continues to add more young players to fill out their lineup, while the Kings get a cagey veteran in Brandon Saad to help mentor their young core.

St.Louis Blues acquire Hampus Lindholm, Brayden Tracey from the Anaheim Ducks for Matt Grzelcyk, Alexandre Texier, Mikko Mattikka, 2026 1st round pick.

This is a tremendous trade for the St.Louis Blues and it makes them legit contenders.

By the 2024-25 season, the St.Louis Blues have put together a contending team.

2024-25 St.Louis Blues

L.Persson-R.O'Reilly-R.Suzuki

E.Jarventie-C.Eiserman-S.Poulin

B.Tracey-R.Thomas-J.Kyrou

L.Foudy-S.Helenius-J.Studnicka

H.Lindholm-E.Salomonsson

T.Krug-C.Parayko

L.Bichel-H.Grans

J.Binnington

J.Hofer

Spares: W.Whitelaw, K.Gruber, D.Goyette, T.Leinonen

This is a young and promising team that looks like it could contend for the next couple years.

FANTASY HOCKEY WAIVER WIRE PLAYERS TO PICKUP

C Sean Couturier -After missing 2+ years, Sean Couturier is back and it seems like he hasn't missed a beat. Believe it or not, Couturier has been one of the top centers in the league so far with his all-around play, putting up 2 goals, 3 assists, 2 PPP, 63 FW, 24 SOG, and 1 SHP. Despite showing that he is still an elite center, Couturier is only owned in 20% of fantasy leagues. Pick him up now, while you still can. Ryan Johansen - Serves as the Avalanche's 2nd line center and plays on their all-world 1st pp unit. Despite not being the player he used to be, Johansen is still a valuable fantasy asset because of the players he plays with. Johansen has 4 goals and 4 PPPs along with 63 FW so far this season. He is owned in 29% of fantasy leagues. Sean Monahan - Someone must have gotten a time machine and put Sean Monahan in it because he is playing like he was back when he was in his prime. Monahan has been arguably the best player on Montreal this year, with 3 goals, 6 points, 2 PP

FANTASY HOCKEY WAIVER WIRE PLAYERS TO PICKUP

Here are some players you should pickup in Fantasy Hockey, sorted by position. Center Colton Sissons Colton Sissons is one of the best 4th line centers in the league, but in fantasy hockey, he could be even more valuable than he actually is in real life because of what he provides in the peripheral categories. So far this season Sissions has 5 goals, 1 PPP, 1 SHP, 12 PIM, 20 SOG, 89 FW, 15 hits, and 9 blocks. This is a terrific stat line and although you can't count on Sissons scoring a ton, he will fill out the FW, Hits, and blocks usually. Sissons is owned in 6% of fantasy leagues, snag him up while you can. Nick Bjugstad Nick Bjugstad is having an excellent year so far with the Arizona Coyotes, in fact he has played so well that he earned himself a promotion to play on the 2nd line along with Mattias Maccelli and Lawson Crouse. Bjugstad also gets time on Arizona's 2nd PP unit and 2nd PK unit. Bjugstad may not be a name who stands out to casuals, but his fantasy stat line is

Fantasy Hockey Forwards to Trade For

Here is a list of Players who you should consider trading for in Fantasy Hockey. Tage Thompson Tage Thompson had very high expectations of him heading into this season but has been a massive disappointment to this point in the season with only 7 goals, 8 assists, 4 PPP, 60 SOG, and 99 FW. Thompson has been better after coming back from injury and you would think that he is going to eventually start putting points in bunches. Because of how bad Thompson's statline is this season. it would be a good idea to trade for him because you may not have to give up a lot in return.  Elias Lindholm Elias Lindholm is another player who has had a slow start to the season with only 7 goals, 10 assists, 3 PPP, 68 SOG, and 297 FW so far this season. Lindholm is definitely going to want to play better if he wants to increase his value for his next contract and also showcase himself for a trade at the deadline. If Lindholm gets dealt to a contending team, his fantasy value would drastically improve b
