Why Calgary Flames should Rebuild

The Calgary Flames are a team that is stuck in mediocracy right now because they aren't quite good enough to make the playoffs, yet they also aren't bad enough to be to completely tank the season, as their team is one of the better ones in their weak division. So what the Calgary Flames should do is rebuild the team, and try to turn the team into a contender that way. This is how I would rebuild the Calgary Flames.

At the 2022 trade deadline, two trades are made:

Calgary Flames trade Johnny Gaudreau to the Philadelphia Flyers for Travis Konecny, Morgan Frost, 2022 1st round pick.

This is a win-win trade for both teams because the Flyers get an elite top 6 forward in Johnny Gaudreau, while the Flames get Travis Konecny, who has been misused at times by the Flyers, Morgan Frost, one of their top prospects and a 1st round pick.

The Flames also trade Nikita Zadorov, Andrew Mangiapane to the Toronto Maple Leafs for Ilya Mikheyev, 2023 2nd rd pick. Calgary retains 50% of Zadorov's contract.

The Maple Leafs are in the last dance situation, so it would make sense to add some depth players to their lineup like Nikita Zadorov and Andrew Mangiapane. For Calgary, they get Ilya Mikheyev, who really hasn't been got much playing time in Toronto, and a 2nd round pick.

Calgary Flames miss the playoffs in the 2021-22 season and finish the season with the 10th pick in the draft.

Before the 2022 draft, a few trades are made

Calgary Flames trade Sean Monahan to the Arizona Coyotes for Cameron Crotty, 2022 1st round pick (from COL), 2022 2nd round pick (from NYI)

This is a win-win trade for both teams; the Coyotes get a legit number 1 center, while the Flames get a 1st and second-round pick in the 2022 draft. Calgary also wants to get Cameron Crotty, a very solid defensive prospect.

The Flames also trade Mikael Backlund to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Alexandre Texier, 2022 3rd round pick, 2023 3rd round pick.

Columbus adds a veteran 2nd or 3rd line center in Mikael Backlund, while the Flames get Alexander Texier, a solid young player, and two 3rd round picks.

Noah Hanifin is traded to the Florida Panthers for Grigori Denisenko, Aleksi Heponiemi, 2023 2nd rd pick.

The Panthers need a left defenseman desperately, while the Flames have too many left Defenseman, so this is a win-win trade for both teams.

2022 draft

10-Jack Hughes

19-Joakim Kemell

32-Alexander Suzdalev

42-Maveric Lamoureux

57-Marco Kasper

58-Simon Forsmark

63-Elmeri Laakso

96-Topias Leinonen

138-Cole Knuble

The Calgary Flames re-stock their farm system, adding the best player available at every position when they drafted.

Calgary Flames re-sign the following players:

Matthew Tkachuk-7yrs / 7.5M per

Ilya Mikheyev-2yrs / 1.75M per

Morgan Frost-2yrs / 1.5M per

Aleksi Heponiemi-2yrs / 1M per

Calgary Flames re-sign all non-roster RFAs

At the 2023 trade deadline, one trade is made:

Calgary Flames trade Milan Lucic to the Boston Bruins for Jake DeBrusk.

This trade makes sense for both teams; Boston brings back Milan Lucic to Boston, where he had the best years of his career, while Jake DeBrusk gets a fresh start with the flames, and gets a chance to prove himself as a legit top 6 forward.

Calgary Flames finish the 2022-23 season and end up with the 7th pick in the draft.

Before the 2023 draft, one trade is made:

Calgary Flames trade Chris Tanev to the Washington Capitals for 2023 2nd round pick, 2024 4th round pick.

The Capitals need a veteran defenseman pair alongside Dmitry Orlov on the second pair, and Chris Tanev seems like a perfect fit for that role. On the flip side of the trade, Calgary gets a pair of draft picks and unloads Tanev's contract.

At the 2023 draft, Calgary Flames trade picks 55, 57, 69, 71 to the St. Louis Blues for pick 22.

2023 draft

7-Hunter Brzutewicz

22-Alex Ciernik

Calgary drafted two blue-chip prospects in Hunter Brzutewicz and Alex Ciernik, both should be an important part of their core in the future.

Calgary Flames re-sign a few players:

Grigori Denisenko-3yrs / 2.8M per

Alexandre Texier-3yrs / 2.5M per

Cameron Crotty-3yrs / 1.7M per

Calgary Flames re-sign all Non-Roster RFAs

At the 2024 trade deadline, one major trade is made

Calgary Flames trade Rasmus Andersson, Dillon Dube to the Columbus Blue Jackets for Liam Foudy, Andrew Peeke, 2025 2nd round pick.

The Flames continue to overhaul their team, moving Rasmus Andersson and Dillon Dube to Columbus for Liam Foudy, Andrew Peeke, and a 2nd round pick. Columbus gets a top 4, offensive defenseman, while Calgary gets two solid young players, who were misused in Columbus, and a 2nd round pick.

Calgary Flames miss the playoffs once again in the 2024-25 season and end up with the 12th worst record.

Before the 2024 draft, two major trade is made:

Calgary Flames Elias Lindholm to the Winnipeg Jets for Cole Perfetti.

This is a simple one-for-one trade that sees the jets acquire Elias Lindholm, who would serve as their second-line center. As for the Flames, Cole Perfetti is a rising star in the league and could have a breakout year.

Calgary also trades Blake Coleman, 2024 2nd round pick to the Colorado Avalanche for Tyson Jost, JT Compher.

Colorado is in win-now mode, so it would make sense for them to try to trade for a player like Blake Coleman; as for the Flames, they get two solid role players in Tyson Jost and JT Compher, while also getting out of the Blake Coleman contract.

Calgary luck out in the draft lottery, and land the 2nd pick in the 2024 draft.

2024 draft

2-Cole Eiserman

Calgary Flames land Cole Eiserman, a potential superstar in the league.

Calgary Flames re-sign a few players:

Cole Perfetti-5yrs / 5.5M per

Morgan Frost-3yrs / 2M per

Liam Foudy-2yrs / 1.1M per

Aleksi Heponiemi-2yrs / 900k per

Calgary Flames re-sign all Non-Roster RFAs.

By the 2024-25 season, Calgary Flames have assembled a contending team once again.

2024-25 Calgary Flames

M.Tkachuk-C.Perfetti-J.Kemell

J. Pelletier-C. Zary-T. Konecny

A.Texier-J.Hughes-G.Denisenko

T.Jost-M.Frost-JT.Compher

S. Formark-H Brzutewicz

J. Valimaki-C. Crotty

C. Mackey-A. Peeke

J. Markstrom

D.Vladar

Spares: L. Foudy, A. Heponiemi, O. Kylington

Top prospects:

F: C.Eiserman, A.Suzdalev, M.Kasper, A.Ciernik

D: M. Lamoreux, E. Laakso

G: T. Leinonen

This is a young and talented team that could dominate the league for the next decade.

TIPS FOR DECIDING WHO TO KEEP FOR KEEPER/DYNASTY LEAGUES

Keeper fantasy leagues are a variation of traditional fantasy sports leagues where participants are allowed to keep a certain number of players from their previous season's roster onto their team for the upcoming season. The number of players that can be kept, as well as the specific rules regarding keeping players, vary from league to league and are typically determined by the league commissioner or by a set of agreed-upon rules among league members. In a keeper league, the kept players usually come with a cost, such as forfeiting a specific draft pick in the upcoming draft or having to pay a predetermined fee. This adds a strategic element to the game, as managers must decide which players to keep based on their performance, potential, and value relative to the cost of keeping them. Keeper leagues often provide a deeper level of engagement and strategy compared to standard fantasy leagues because managers need to consider long-term player development and roster management beyond ...

Here are some tips to help you dominate your Fantasy Hockey Keeper Leagues. Number of Keepers and League Settings When deciding on keepers, it is very important to know how many keepers the league allows you to keep and the league scoring system, because there are players that work better in H2H CAT leagues as opposed to H2H leagues with standard scoring categories.  If you can only keep a few players, focus on those who provide the most value in your specific scoring format. Keep players who excel in categories that are heavily weighted in your league (e.g., power-play points, hits, blocks, faceoffs). If the league uses Rotisserie or Points settings, you will have to take that...

2024 Offseason Preview ft. New Jersey Devils

The New Jersey Devils the playoffs in the 2023-24 season after making it into the second round of the playoffs last season, and finished the season with a total of 81 points, a 38-39-5 record; With Jack Hughes and Nico Hischier in the midst of their primes, the New Jersey Devils really need to start to buckle down and put together the pieces for a contending team. The good news is that the New Jersey Devils have the benefit of having the 10th overall pick, which they could move to acquire a netminder, and they also have plenty of cap space to add other players as well. This coming offseason is a big one for the New Jersey Devils front office because after striking out on a netminder last offseason, the pressure to acquire a netminder this offseason is immense for GM Tom Fitzgerald, who might be on the hotseat if he can't find a way to fix the mess. Before the 2024 NHL Draft, the New Jersey Devils make two major trades New Jersey Devils acquire Jacob Markstrom, Matthew Coronato, 1st...
